NNTP

NNTP stands for Network News Transfer Protocol.  It is the "language" or protocol computers use to tranfer messages on Usenet.  The NNTP server on Easynews contains all the newsgroups on Usenet including text and binary (movies, pics, audio, etc...) files.  Because of that, the retention (time files are held) on NNTP is less than on HTTP (which only has the binary files).

What does this mean for you if you are just looking to download movies, music, and software from your web browser?  Absolutely nothing.  NNTP is only for those people looking to connect a Newsreader to Usenet to participate in text based discussions - or simply because they prefer to use a Newsreader.  Actually, the only way you can connect to a NNTP server is using a newsreader such as Forte Agent or Newsbin Pro.
